Gayatri Vidya Parishad, a premier educational trust formed and managed by eminent educationalists, philanthropists and technocrats of Visakhapatnam has established "College of Engineering" in 1996 for the promotion of Quality Technical Education in Andhra Pradesh.

The over all pass percentage of the students graduated so far has been around 90% of which 40% getting distinctions and 35% getting first class. The college has bagged several university ranks including university first ranks during the last 3 years.
The students of GVP College of Engineering have performed exceedingly well also in national and international graduate level competitive examinations. In GATE 2004 the students performance has been excellent with as many as 109 students getting qualified. Most students have got percentile scores above 90 with All INDIA Rank No.2 in EEE, All INDIA Rank No.78 in CSE and All INDIA Rank No.70 in Chemical Engineering and Rank No. 103 in Civil Engineering as the best performers. About 300 of our students have already completed or are pursuing their Masters Programmes and Ph.D's in IITs, IISc, RECs and many US Universities.
The students have done well also in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Several of them have represented the JNT University in inter-university tournaments and won medals even in National Games. A student chapter of ISTE is functioning in the college from 2003.
The college has very active ongoing faculty development programmes. 18 of the faculty are registered for Ph.D's and 8 are registered for M.Tech.
In spite of being only seven years old, the college has already a strong Industry-Institute Interaction. For further strengthening of this interaction, a separate center for Industrial Consultancy, Research and Development (ICRD) has been started in 2001. The earning for the consultancy by the various departments and this center has already reached about Rs.20.00lakhs.
The college is proud of the fact that it is the only college selected by the J.N.T.U. from amongst its 180 and odd affiliated colleges to be a nodal center (along with constituent colleges at Kakinada, Ananthapur and Hyderabad) to offer the part-time contact-cum-correspondence course (CCC) leading to B. Tech. Degree for diploma holders.
In view of its good track record the college has been selected by the government of Andhra Pradesh to be the implementing agency for setting up the Indo-German Institute of Advanced Technology (IGIAT) at Visakhapatnam, an institute for advanced training supported by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and German Government through their funding agency GTZ. The total outlay on the institute will be at Rs. 23 Crores spread over a period of 4 years.
The development plans envisaged in the immediate future are the following:
· provision of regular hostel accommodation on the campus for about 200 students such that the college can develop a residential (campus) culture.
· to provide a separate library building.
· to provide additional floors on the existing 3 storied building and also two lifts.
· to obtain the status of an autonomous college by the year 2010.
